Eight of the ten run longer than a minute. The shortest, OpenBrand at 16 seconds, launched an open-source tool that pulls a brand's logos and colours from a URL, so one action shows the whole product.

Two of the ten are launches Doomers ran. TypeSafe AI went from 1,500 followers to 40M views and 150,000 waitlist signups in 24 hours. Pine Computer reached 24M views from about 1,200 followers.

How long should a product launch video be?

For an account under 10,000 followers, a product launch video should run 1 to 4 minutes. Videos of 2 to 4 minutes from small accounts had a median of 546K views, 3.6 times the median for 30 to 60 seconds.

The typical launch video on X runs 61 seconds, and the middle half of all launch videos sit between 36 and 94 seconds. Here is how each length performed.

Short clips post the biggest raw medians because large accounts favour them. A frontier lab can drop a 20-second teaser and collect millions of views from its own followers, which is why clips under 30 seconds reach only 7 to 9 times their following.

Small accounts get their views from people who have never heard of them. A video of 1 to 4 minutes gives those strangers enough time to see the product work. The same pattern holds across the directory in what predicts a big launch.

How long can a video be on X?

A video on X can run up to 140 seconds on a standard account. X Premium subscribers can upload up to 4 hours on x.com and the iOS app, and up to 10 minutes on Android, according to X's help centre.

That cap shapes launch videos. 90% of the launch videos in the directory are 140 seconds or shorter. The 2 to 4 minute length that worked best for small accounts needs Premium on the posting account, so check it a week before launch day.

Every limit by plan, file size and format is in how long X videos can be, with length measured against reach on 1,667 launch videos.

Should a launch video be landscape or vertical?

Landscape is the default for launch videos on X. Of the 1,550 launch videos measured, 1,446, or 93%, are wider than they are tall. Square and vertical videos posted higher medians, at 1.02M and 1.25M views, from samples of 72 and 32.

Those samples are too small to call. A vertical cut costs little to make, so post the landscape master on X and use the vertical edit for TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn, where it fits the feed.

What do the best launch videos have in common?

The best launch videos of 2026 sit under a post that makes one plain claim about the product. OpenAI's Astra post says it can do anything you can do on a computer. Claude's says it can now use your computer to complete tasks.

The video is there to prove the sentence.

Three habits repeat across both tables.

Production polish matters least for technical products. A screen recording often outperforms a produced film, which do you need a launch video covers. The cinematic template most AI companies now share is the subject of every AI launch video looks the same.

How we measured it

We took every launch in the directory posted between 7 January and 19 October 2026 that carried a video and announced a product, a feature or a model. We left out funding announcements, and launches outside AI and software: games and consoles, film and TV trailers, crypto, trading and prediction markets, and consumer delivery. That gave 1,550 videos from 1,050 accounts.

Views are X's public view count, read daily. Video length is the duration X reports for the uploaded file. Followers are the account's count when the post was read, or at the moment of posting where we recorded it, as for TypeSafe AI and Pine Computer.

The directory skews toward launches that travelled, because it is built from launches people noticed. Read every median here as the bar for a launch that got attention, and expect an ordinary product video to land lower. Every figure is a median, so one 100M-view post cannot move a row.
