We measured 1,872 launches in the Doomers launch directory, every launch on X we have tracked in 2026, to find what separates a launch that travels from one that stays inside its own following. The numbers below are as of 12 October 2026.
The measure we use throughout is the launch multiple: views divided by the posting account's followers. A launch at 1x reached about as many views as the account has followers.
A launch at 100x reached a hundred times its own audience. Raw views mostly tell you how big the account was. The multiple tells you how far the launch travelled.
Followers set the typical result, and the ceiling stays open
Follower count and views move together, but loosely. The rank correlation across all 1,872 launches is 0.46, which means account size explains part of the result and leaves most of it to everything else.
| Followers at launch | Launches | Median views | Median multiple | Passed 1M views |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 5K | 574 | 246K | 174x | 1 in 5 |
| 5K to 25K | 445 | 619K | 54x | 2 in 5 |
| 25K to 100K | 247 | 1.06M | 25x | 1 in 2 |
| 100K to 500K | 311 | 1.04M | 5x | 1 in 2 |
| 500K to 2M | 166 | 1.52M | 1.3x | 3 in 5 |
| Over 2M | 129 | 2.58M | 0.4x | 4 in 5 |
Two things stand out. One in five launches from accounts under 5,000 followers passed a million views, so a small account caps the typical launch and leaves the ceiling open.
At the other end, accounts over 2 million followers reach a median of 0.4 times their own following on a launch. A big following is a head start, and most of it never sees the post.
Video length: one to four minutes travels furthest
Nine in ten launches in the directory carry a video, so the useful question is how long. Comparing launches from accounts of similar size, longer films travel further, up to about four minutes.
| Video length | Under 25K followers | 25K to 500K | Over 500K |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 30 seconds | 49x | 7.8x | 1.0x |
| 30 to 60 seconds | 71x | 7.2x | 1.0x |
| 1 to 2 minutes | 125x | 14x | 1.1x |
| 2 to 4 minutes | 162x | 12x | 0.8x |
| Over 4 minutes | 122x | 16x | 0.9x |
For accounts under 25,000 followers, a launch film of one to four minutes reached about three times the multiple of a clip under 30 seconds. For accounts of 25,000 to 500,000, it was about twice.
A longer film gives the ranker more watch time to read and gives a stranger enough to understand the product. For the largest accounts, length made no difference, because their reach comes from the following they already have.
Timing: Tuesday to Thursday, and never the weekend
Launches cluster midweek, and the multiples back that up for smaller accounts. Under 25,000 followers, launches posted Tuesday to Thursday reached a median of 105x to 123x. Saturday and Sunday launches reached about 40x.
Only 75 of the 1,872 launches went out on a weekend, so the weekend figures rest on a small sample. The pattern is consistent with who is on X on a Saturday, and with the fact that the people who would carry a launch are offline too. Our guide to launch timing goes into the hour.
Bookmarks: the sign the right people saw it
The clearest signal in the data is how often people saved a launch compared with how often they liked it. A like costs nothing. A bookmark means someone intends to come back, which is what a buyer, an investor or an engineer does with a product they want to look at properly.
| Bookmarks per like | Under 25K followers | 25K to 500K | Over 500K |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 0.3 | 57x | 6.1x | 0.6x |
| 0.3 to 0.6 | 100x | 9.1x | 1.2x |
| 0.6 to 1 | 121x | 12.7x | 2.3x |
| 1 or more | 121x | 14.6x | 1.0x |
At every account size, launches that were saved more for each like travelled further, roughly twice as far from the bottom band to the top. The directory median is about one bookmark for every two likes. A launch running well above that is reaching people who want to use what it shows.
That is why our case studies report bookmarks next to views. Pine Computer drew 3,132 bookmarks, five times the directory median, from a founder account of about 1,200 followers.
Launch type: funding rounds hold up from small accounts
Product launches, funding announcements, model releases and feature updates all appear in the directory. From accounts under 25,000 followers, funding announcements reached a median of 122x and product launches 108x. A round from a small founder account travels as far as a product does.
Feature updates reached the lowest multiples at that size, 64x. They usually come from companies whose existing users are the audience, so they travel less far past the following. Our guide to funding announcement strategy covers how to run a round as a launch.
What made no difference: copy length
We expected post length to matter, and across account sizes it does not show a consistent pattern. Short posts did best for mid-sized accounts, long posts did slightly better for small ones, and the largest accounts showed nothing either way. What the post says matters far more than how long it is, which is harder to measure and is the subject of our launch breakdowns.
What the multiple measures, and what moves it
Put together, the data describes a launch that travels: a film of a minute or more, posted midweek, saved by the people who would buy or back it. What it cannot see directly is who carried the post in its first hours, and that is the lever we pull.
Among launches from accounts under 25,000 followers, the 17 Doomers launched reached a median multiple of 465x, against 101x for the rest of the directory at that size. That is a small sample, and every one of those launches also had a strong product and a good film. It is still the largest gap in this study.
The case against these findings
Every number here comes from our own directory, and the directory has limits worth stating plainly.
- It is a record of launches that got noticed. Launches found in bulk come in at 500,000 views or more, while launches sent to us by hand can be any size. About 38% sit under 500,000. So this study compares big launches with smaller ones that still got noticed. Launches nobody saw are missing.
- Followers are counted after the launch. We read follower counts when we fetch a post, and a big launch grows a small account. Pine's founder went from about 1,200 followers to 2,200 in a day. That makes small-account multiples lower than they really were, so the gap at the bottom of the follower table is, if anything, understated.
- These are associations. Teams that make two-minute films may also have bigger budgets, better products and stronger networks. A high bookmark rate may follow from reaching the right people as much as it helps a post reach them. None of this proves cause.
- We have the day and not the hour. The timing findings use the posting date. Hour-level timing is missing from this dataset.
- Views are not buyers. A view counts anyone who scrolled past. Bookmarks are the closest proxy we have for intent, and they are still a proxy.
- The year is weighted to its second half. 1,063 of the 1,872 launches are from August to October 2026, so the findings lean toward how X ranks posts now.
What would change our minds: if, as the directory grows, multiples for small accounts shrink toward 1x, or the bookmark pattern stops holding within each account size. We will rerun this study each quarter and publish the result either way.
Questions we get asked
What is a launch multiple?
Views divided by the posting account's followers. A launch with 1 million views from an account of 10,000 followers has a multiple of 100x. It measures how far a launch travelled past its own audience, which raw views cannot show because they mostly reflect account size.
Do you need a big following to launch on X?
No. Across 1,872 launches in the Doomers directory, one in five from accounts under 5,000 followers passed a million views, and the median launch at that size reached 174 times its following. A larger following raises the typical result and caps nothing.
How long should a launch video be?
For accounts under 500,000 followers, launch videos of one to four minutes reached two to three times the multiple of clips under 30 seconds, comparing accounts of similar size, with the biggest gain for accounts under 25,000. For the largest accounts, length made no measurable difference.
What is the best day to launch on X?
Tuesday to Thursday. For accounts under 25,000 followers, midweek launches reached a median of 105x to 123x their following, against about 40x on Saturday and Sunday. Few launches go out on weekends, so the weekend sample is small.
Why do bookmarks matter for a launch?
A bookmark means someone intends to come back to the post, which is what buyers and investors do with a product they want to look at. At every account size in the directory, launches with more bookmarks per like travelled further. The median is about one bookmark for every two likes.
