Jev is an AI model from TypeSafe AI, released on 15 September 2026. It is the first of what TypeSafe calls System One Models: it returns a decision your code can use directly, with output tokens free. The name is a nod to Jevons Paradox.
When Jev was released
Jev was released on 15 September 2026. It came out the same day TypeSafe AI left two years of stealth, announced by co-founder and chief executive Diogo Almeida from his own account on X, @CompleteSkeptic. A $40 million seed led by DCVC was announced alongside it.
What Jev does
TypeSafe trained Jev with a new method it calls RLCD. The launch post made three claims a reader could check against the launch video:
- 20 to 200 times faster than frontier chat models
- 40 to 400 times cheaper
- Output tokens free
The use case is software that needs a judgement: routing, classifying, choosing the next step. Jev returns the decision itself, ready for the code that asked.
Who makes Jev
TypeSafe AI is an AI lab in San Francisco building models that make decisions inside software. Its founders are Diogo Almeida, who co-invented RLHF and InstructGPT at OpenAI, Erik Gafni and Sasha Sheng.
The company is on X as @TypeSafeAI and on the web at typesafe.ai.
How the Jev launch went
Doomers ran the launch. Almeida's post went out from an account of about 1,500 followers and reached 40M views, one of the largest launches of 2026 on X.
- 150,000+ waitlist signups in the first 24 hours
- $100 million in revenue in the first seven days, per Sequoia's Pat Grady
- The fastest-adopted model in Vercel AI Gateway history, per Vercel on 18 September 2026

TypeSafe AI's funding after Jev
On 9 October 2026, 24 days after the launch, Bloomberg reported that TypeSafe AI had raised about $870 million at a $7.5 billion valuation, led by Andreessen Horowitz with Sequoia Capital taking part. Almeida posted it the same day as a Series A, noting that Jev was serving trillions of tokens a day.
